|Masticha is the product of the tree Schinos and it comes from its trunk and branches. Schinos tree can only be found on the North Chios Island. The product is a secretion coming from the tree that is the results of the trunks surface being scratched using a blade. Masticha will appear in a tear shape on the scratched spots and it tends to flow towards the ground like teardrops. While it is being secreted it looks like a gluey and clear liquid and it tends to turn into a solid within 15 days, taking different shapes. It was labeled as a Product of protected name of origin in 1997.It gives a remarkable aroma on sweets and has therapeutic abilities. Today it is used widely.
